Change in Masking Guidelines (03/02/2022)

With lower COVID positivity rates and declining hospitalizations, the CDC and NYS have released new guidelines, including the lifting of K-12 school mask mandates as of today.

The CDC has classified Monroe County as a medium-risk community, which carries no recommendation for indoor masking; however, some adjacent communities are still classified as high risk.  The CDC offers these masking and distancing guidelines on its website:

  • "If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions."
  • "If you are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines, stay at least 6 feet away from other people, especially if you are at higher risk of getting very sick with COVID-19."

After careful consideration, the Board of Elders has determined that St. Mark will no longer require, but strongly encourage the use of masks and distancing as safeguards, especially for those who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations or those who are at high risk for severe illness.

We will continue to stream live and post services online and provide additional seating in the fellowship hall for worship.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is the church open for in-person worship?  Yes, we welcome you to worship this Sunday at 9am.  All services are also live-streamed on Facebook: https://facebook.com/stmarkmendon. You'll also find the previous Sunday service on the green column on the right side of home page of this site. Offerings are received at the door rather than by collection during the service.  Giving envelopes are available for those who wish to mail in a gift, and electronic giving is also an option included with a QR code link on our Sunday bulletin cover, which is sent weekly by email. To learn more or to be added to our list, please contact Sharong Langford: secretary@stmarkmendon.org

Is the building safe?  As per CDC guidelines to reduce the risk of transmission-in addition to enccouraging masks and social distancing-our custodian disinfects hard surfaces such as door handles, stairway rails and pews between weekly services.  Bathrooms likewise are disinfected.

Is there a touch-free option?  Our hymnals have been removed from the church in favor of print copies of the service with hymns & announcements; however, if you prefer touch-free, a QR code in the lobby allows you to download the service to your smartphone or tablet.  Documents are also sent out by email each week with hyperlinks that may be accessed directly in the pdf.  Please contact the church office to be added to the list.  Holy Communion is celebrated each week; worshipers may pick up a prefilled, sealed communion cup and wafer on the way into church. A small bag is provided for disposal.
